Basketball

Basketball
Basketball is my favorite sport and is one of the best sports to watch and play. Why its one of the best to watch is because it is exciting all of the action that goes on and the most exciting thing the slam dunk. The slam dunk is the most exciting thing in basketball because there are so many different dunks in the sport of basketball. People dunk over other people, they do 360’s in midair, they do windmill dunks, some dunks are slammed with amazing force some are finesse.

The coolest dunks I’ve ever seen is the Michael Jordan’s dunk from the free throw line in the slam dunk contest. A dunk that happened this season, Blake Griffins slam dunk over Thunder Center Kendrick Perkins that was considered the dunk of the year. Even back in the 1990’s when Shaq dunked and the hoop collapsed on him, another amazing dunk I’ve seen is when Julius Erving a.k.a Dr.J went up for a dunk in midair he went under the backboard with the ball and dunked it with a defender in his face. But the best dunk I’ve ever seen was when in the slam dunk contest in 2009 the 5’9 point guard Nate Robinson dunked over 6’11 center Dwight Howard to win the 2009 slam dunk contest.

Theme Response for "The Lottery"

Theme response
In the short story “The Lottery” there is a lot of symbolism that makes the book good. some of them are, well to start off the main one I think is the lottery its self because it mainly stands for the tradition of the community to do it once a year. Another major one is the black box it mainly stands for death, tradition, and fear. How it represents death is that they are forced to pick a sheet of paper from the box and the person that won got killed. How it represents tradition is that they have used the same box since the lottery started and won’t fix it since it is sacred. How it represents fear is that the people fear taking a slip of paper out fearing they would win and get killed.

Another one is the big rock that the best friend picked up to use, this represents friendship because the best friend wanted to use the big rock so she would die quickly and she wouldn’t suffer. But don’t forget about the black spotted ticket this represents death and a curse, how it represents death is that if you pick this slip of paper you are the winner and the winner gets killed. How it represents cursed is that if you pick it, it has a curse that gets you killed. There is one more main one and that’s all the rocks that the kids collected they represent death and torture; it represents death because they are used to kill the winner. They represent torture because if they throw small rocks it will take a while to kill the winner and it is a form of torture.

Ray Lewis is the best.

Ray Lewis
In sports there are the stars, the players that provide the spectacular plays but not all of them are specified as leaders. Well there are few that are both a leader and a superstar on the field. One of the few is Ray Lewis a middle linebacker for the Baltimore Ravens. He is under the elite category of superstar and leader. Ray Lewis is the best defensive football player ever.

No doubt that he is a superstar talent wise he has been terrorizing offensive players since he was drafted in 1996 with hits so hard they take your breath away and his passion for the game. Ray had been mocked for being undersized for his position but what he lacked in size he made up for in heart a sports science test proved that at full speed Ray generates over 1,000 pounds of force that’s 200 more pounds than a police grade battering ram. The only reason he doesn’t break bones every time he hits someone is because of shoulder pads and the flexibility of the rib cage.

On the other hand Rays leadership can’t be matched either he is the ultimate leader on and off the field. Before the game in the pregame huddles he pumps up his teammates to the extreme and keeps them motivated to do their best through the entire game. In an interview he said it doesn’t matter about me it matters that I go out and sacrifice my body for you. People say when he gets into the hall of fame there will be an equal amount of footage of his pregame warm up speeches as his hits.

However you can’t forget about his intensity that is another part of Ray’s game is his intensity if you saw Ray you would know he gives 200% every time he steps onto the field. He’s the type of guy that was a man before you, he is more of a man now, and he’ll be even more than a man than you after he hits you. He gives his all for the team he’s on so they can succeed he never takes a play off, he wouldn’t dream of taking a play off.

Ray Lewis is the best defensive player in NFL history; from his skills to his leadership to his intensity these traits give him the ability to be the best of the best.

Another crack in the mirror

Dear max,
I am your mirror in your room that you have put yet another crack in this is getting quite annoying and it is the third one this week. You know how they say if your angry something or somebody don’t take it out on others, well I think the same should go for mirrors after the latest stunt of anger that put yet another crack in me that makes  seven in total not to mention all of the scratches on me as well. I would appreciate it if you were to stop putting cracks in me.
                                                                        sincerely,
                                                                    The mirror on the wall

Is Cloning Good for Humanity?

Is Cloning Good For Humanity?
By Derek Corica
Authors Note: I am writing this essay on the good and bad things about cloning.
For the last couple decades the idea of cloning animals and humans has grown a lot it is a very hot topic in the science world. There have been a lot of attempts on cloning animals such as cows, chicken, and sheep and they have succeeded. Cloning is a very interesting topic in both good and bad ways.
A lot of people say cloning is a good thing for humanity. First of all, if cloning is perfected we could clone things that had gone extinct a million years ago and learn more about the past and how things happened. Another reason it could be good is because if a country is running out of food or something they could just clone different animals so they could have food and not starve. Also if they cloned cows, food production would go up and prices would go down. If they can start human cloning they could clone different parts of the body so is someone needed a new kidney they could clone one instead of someone having to donate their own.
Another reason that cloning could be good for humanity is because scientists can clone animals that are endangered like the panda and tiger if it comes down to there are only a few tigers left, scientists can clone the tiger thus making more of them. Furthermore scientists can also use cloning for stem cell research to watch the development of different cancers and diseases and they can find a cure for cancer and diseases.
Although people support cloning some people don’t. They think it’s a bad thing that people are cloning different things.  Some are protesters that think its animal cruelty and its hurting the animals. People think it’s a waste of money because the success rate is very low, fewer than 20% the success rate of the cloned animal being born. Even if it’s born the rate or survival through the first four weeks is very low. Most of the time the people that are against cloning are people with a strong faith, they feel that cloning is “Playing God”.
Cloning can either be a good thing and a bad thing; it just depends on how you look at it.  I think it’s a good thing; there is a much better up side than down side and it can help the planet.

Cause and Effect for winning

Cause and Effect for Winning
Authors note: I am writing this piece to show the cause and effects for winning.
Winning is the best feeling you can have. It shows that you have accomplished something and it also shows that you are better than the team that you just beat. It also is a huge confidence booster. Winning is the best feeling ever.

First of all when you win there are a lot of effects, winning in anything is an accomplishment if it’s winning a football game, basketball game, anything that has to do with winning. Some effects are it raises your confidence; it also makes you feel better. Also if you win going into the next game you feel like you can beat them and if you play the same team twice and you win the first game you go into the second game with a mentality that if you can beat them once you can beat them again.

Second just one win can spark a team to do better the rest of the season like Indiana college in college basketball they were struggling the first part of the season they were playing number 1 ranked Kentucky and they had beat Kentucky on a last second buzzer beater three to win the game and after that win Indiana went on a winning streak and ended up being ranked number 16 in the country. There are many other stories like this that winning just one game made a team so motivated and confident they say “Hey we can win this game, why can’t we keep winning” and they end up making news and they start accomplishing things.

Winning is the best thing ever because it helps get your confidence up. Especially in sports terms, it is the best thing for you.

Ray Allen

Ray Allen
Walter Ray Allen was said to have been born with a basketball in his arms, on July 20, 1975 Ray had been born with one thing in his mind to dominate the NBA from behind the arc. With one of the fastest release times in the NBA Ray can fool his defenders and hit threes with no effort. Ray Allen is the uncontested three point champion in the NBA past and present.

Why Ray is the three point champion because his amazing release timing and speed his release time only takes .73 seconds to release the ball its fast like a cheetah. Also is the angle it takes to make a three pointer is 48 degrees Ray’s angle if off a tenth of that he’s more accurate than a heat seeking missile with his threes.

Also why he is so deadly from three point range is because his release point, accuracy improves the closer you get to the hoop well if he got any closer to the hoop it wouldn’t be a three but he consistently times his mechanics so he releases the ball at the top of his jump or the highest point. With the ball at nine feet in the air makes the release as close to the hoop as he will get, there was a test seeing if Ray released the ball on the highest point of his jump and he consistently did that nine out of ten times. That kind of consistency is unmatched most basketball players are less accurate then Ray from medium range and sometimes even close range and that involves getting closer to the hoop.

Ray Allen is the unmatched three point champion of the past and present, his kind of talent can’t be matched, his knowledge of math increases his understanding of when to release the ball at a perfect angle and a perfect timing every time.

Response to the poems “Big Yellow Taxi” and “Field Below”.

Response to the poems “Big Yellow Taxi” and “Field Below”.

The mood and tone seems different when I listened to the music to “Big Yellow Taxi” because the music was happy it was more upbeat then sad. When in the poem without the music it seems really sad but with the music it seems happy. The authors purpose for writing this is to be sad but with the music it isn't sad because it is upbeat the meaning of it is to be sad but the lyrics are but the music isn't. There is a lot of differences between the tone and mood when you listen to the music and read the poem like if you listen to the music the tone and mood doesn't seem sad but if you read the poem the tone and mood do seem sad.

For “Field Below” with the music it still seems sad like the poem it follows along with the tone in the poem and the mood which is depressing and sad. There is no difference between the poem and the music for the poem “Field Below”. The authors meaning of this poem is to be sad as well as the other poem and it is as well as the music, the lyrics and the music are very much alike there isn't much difference between them. When you read the poem and listen to the music the tone and mood aren't that different they both are sad and depressing.

Parody

This relates to the novel “Stormbreaker” by Anthony Horowitz because the the voice of the poem is Alex Rider who is the main character of Stormbreaker. The audience is Harod Sayle who is the bad guy in the story. The mood is humerous or sarcastic and the tone is like earnest or sincere(which is almost the same thing).

I have destroyed
The computer
That you have made

And which
You were going to use
To destroy the world

Forgive me
I had to do it
To save the world

Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bryant
Authors Note: I am writing this essay on Kobe Bryant

Kobe Bean Bryant is his name and basketball is his game, he is unstoppable with his dazzling moves to the basket and simply perfect shot sent him flying to the top. Kobe is the best basketball player of this century.

Coming from Lower Merion High School in Philadelphia Kobe quickly became on all NBA scouts watch list with bringing a skill to the game that people haven’t seen since Michael Jordan. As a freshman in high school he had made the varsity team and even though the team wasn’t the best he was the best, during his junior year he averaged 31.1 points, 10.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists and was named Pennsylvania Player of the Year. But his senior year was most impressive year. Bryant led the Aces to their first state championship in 53 years. During the run, he averaged 30.8 points, 12 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 4.0 steals, and 3.8 blocked shots in leading the Aces to a 31–3 record.

In the long career of Kobe’s he has done some amazing things, he has more awards than many people, winning three MVP’s 6 offensive players of the year and many more. He is fifth all time in total points with 29,374 points he was the fastest player to reach 28,000 points.

He has also contributed his wide range of skills overseas on the USA Olympic team paring up with all the stars of the NBA contributing a lot while the team winning three gold medals. Kobe made the game winning jump shot in the semi finals to beat China to continue on and win the gold.

Kobe has talent like no other he is the best player in the past century. Winning countless medals/awards while breaking several records so far in his career but he still has many more years in the NBA.

Character analisis

Woods Runner Character
Authors note: I wrote this piece to describe Samuel; the main character in the book “Woods Runner”.

In the book Woods Runner there is a boy named Samuel who lives in the middle of the woods in the year 1776. Samuel is a thirteen years old, but he is the bravest thirteen year old ever he has to go and find his parents that have been captured by the British and Indians. With only a musket, a knife, and a determination to find his parents he sets off to find his parents, even if he can find them there is no telling that he can be able to overtake the British.

Samuel plays a big role in his family he has a lot of responsibilities for a thirteen year old boy he has to go hunting for the food that he and his mom and dad eat every day. His parents think differently and they think that they don’t have to do work. Also he has to cook the food and make sure everyone in the family is ok and the house doesn’t fall apart.

In the book Samuel is the main character and has to take up an incredible task to find his parents that have been taken by the British. Also he is accompanied by a nine year old girl that is scared because he rescued her after her parents were killed he also has to fend for the both of them by hunting for food, making the fire, and cooking the food that he kills. He is the bravest thirteen year old I’ve ever seen.

Essay for the book"The City of Ember"

Character development for “The City of Ember”

Authors Note: I am writing this essay for Character development for the book “The City of Ember”

In the book “The City of Ember” one of the main characters name is Lina she is a big part in the story, and as the story progresses she changes in different ways. Lina changes as the book goes on.

In the first part of the book Lina is a happy adventures girl that is so excited for this day the day they choose their jobs. Lina has dreamed and pictured this day forever the day she would picked as messenger. But at first she didn’t get it but in the end of the day after a trade in jobs she would get messenger. So in this part of the book she couldn’t be happier she was at an all time high she was finally going to start her job. The excitement was rushing through her veins to start. So at the begging of the book her change is she is very happy to start her job and that means taking on new responsibilities.

Now in the middle of the book Linda changes from being excited to being worried and somewhat scared and also mad with the blackouts getting more frequent and longer. Also with the findings that the mayor the soul leader of the city is doing nothing about the blackouts. Also she gets more responsibilities because her grandmas memory is slipping and Lina now has to cook clean and be the mom of the house.

Now at the end of the book Lina is back to being more than excited she is ecstatic that her and Doon have found a way out of the city but only her Doon and her baby sister are going to search for a way out. They take the river down the path but the front part of the ride was not so nice, the current was unbarring and throwing them around Lina was feeling scared and was acting like they were going to die. But when they slowed down and forced to get out of the boat because the river ended they found a path that was raising Linas hopes that they were going to find a way out, and when they did she was very excited and happy that they found a way out.

In the story Lina has a lot of ups and downs as the story progresses but in the end she ends up very happy.

Creative Essay

Compare and contrast for “The City Of Ember”

Authors Note: I am writing this piece on comparing and contrasting the mayor and what Doon would want in a mayor from Doon’s point of view.

In the book “The City Of Ember” the main character is Doon and he lives in a city that is run by a corrupt mayor that in a time of struggle for the city, he is lying to the city he says that they have a plan to fix the problems but the truth is they have no plan. While there running out of everything he is stealing from the reserves, how this was discovered was Doon had came upon him in the reserves room stuffing his face with food. This essay is to compare and contrast the current mayor with the mayor Doon would want.

First there are many differences between the mayor and the mayor Doon envisions. Some of them are the mayor that Doon would want has a leadership quality that the current mayor doesn’t have, also in a time of struggle the dream mayor would not lie and just say they have a solution he would come before the townspeople and tell them some of the plans he had in store. Unlike the current mayor that just says they have a solution but really they have none. Another thing is that the dream mayor would be open to the people unlike the current that is kind of a hermit he keeps to himself unless necessary and the dream mayor would make sure everyone in the city is happy and enjoys their job, unlike the current mayor that doesn’t care about the cities feelings and only cares about himself.

Even though there are many differences between the two mayors there are some similarities. Some of them are that the current mayor and the dream mayor would be strict on crime which they are. Also both the dream mayor and the current mayor make sure everyone is employed and doing their part to make the city better.

In the book “The City of Ember” the main character Doon does not like the current mayor because of the recent findings he has uncovered about the mayor and he wants a new one that would be just like the one I stated in this essay.
