Retelling for Thank You Ma'am

Thank You Ma’am
Authors Note: This is a retelling piece on the short story “Thank You Ma’am” by Langston Hughes.

It all started off when Mrs. Lueta Bates Jones Washington was walking home one night when a young boy named Roger tried to steal her purse. But he didn’t get away with it he had fallen and the woman had been able to get a hold of him. She took Roger back to her house and had not threatened to call the cops, she had washed his face because it was dirty then fed him dinner then gave him ten dollars, for the shoes he wanted that’s why he tried to steal her purse.

Then sent Roger on his way, Roger was very confused he had thought for sure that she would have called the cops on him, and has him thrown in jail for attempting to steal her purse. But he was ok with getting fed and earning ten dollars.

  1. I like how you told the story before you told what you were writing about.

  2. In your author's note you may want to write a little of what you are going to write about. But you have a good start
