Quote for “The City Of Ember”
“Who knows? Our job is to keep it from breaking down”
That is the quote from the generator worker to Doon when he was in the generator room. The quote is important because the topic is the main part of the story the generator. It is breaking down; I think this quote is important because it shows that nobody has a solution for the problem at hand (The generator).
How this quote is important is because when Doon got a view of the generator and asked a worker how it works he replied, “Who knows? Our job is to keep from breaking down”. Also I think that it is a big part in the story because the problem at hand is a matter of life or death, but not even the people that have been working on it there entire life don’t even know the first thing on how to fix it. Even Doon that had a plan to fix it was having second thoughts because what the worker had told him.
The quote is important because it is a huge part in the story, it shows that the city is doomed because trying to fix the generator is a lost cause everyone doesn’t have a clue on how to even approach the massive generator, and the quote about sums it up.

Predicting for "The City Of Ember"
Predicting for the city of ember
Authors note: I am writing this essay about predicting for the book “The City of Ember”.
In this book so far there are two main characters Lina and Doon they both live in a city that is powered by nothing but lights. But the city is in danger the power is about to fail, and the city is running out of supplies rapidly. There are two solutions but they are both risky, one is to go out into the darkness and try to seek out another city. But the darkness holds uncertain dangers and is risky. Another idea is to try to fix the generator but no one knows how to work the generator because it is old and no instructions were left in case of it breaking down.
I predict that the people will be forced to travel into the darkness and attempt to find another city. The reason I predict this is because it seems like the most logical solution but no one has managed to get a mobile light source to take with them when they go into the darkness to light the way and they will find another city that can help the city of ember.

Retelling for Thank You Ma'am
Thank You Ma’am
Authors Note: This is a retelling piece on the short story “Thank You Ma’am” by Langston Hughes.
It all started off when Mrs. Lueta Bates Jones Washington was walking home one night when a young boy named Roger tried to steal her purse. But he didn’t get away with it he had fallen and the woman had been able to get a hold of him. She took Roger back to her house and had not threatened to call the cops, she had washed his face because it was dirty then fed him dinner then gave him ten dollars, for the shoes he wanted that’s why he tried to steal her purse.
Then sent Roger on his way, Roger was very confused he had thought for sure that she would have called the cops on him, and has him thrown in jail for attempting to steal her purse. But he was ok with getting fed and earning ten dollars.

Slim Shady
Slim Shady
Authors Note: In this essay I will be telling you about Slim Shady.
If you don’t know who Slim Shady is its okay because not many have. Slim is Eminem’s alter ego that was created by the darkest part if Eminem’s mind and is the very being that Eminem blames for his faults.
Shady was created on Eminem’s first album on the song “My Name Is” and continues throughout his career. Slim also was the reason for Eminem’s success it gave Eminem something to base his music off of; they said he couldn't just be Eminem; he had to be Eminem a.k.a. somebody else. "Slim Shady is just the evil thoughts that come into my head. Things I shouldn't be thinking about” he said in an interview.
You will commonly hear something about Shady in any Eminem song especially one that runs deep. Like in the song when I’m gone he says I turn around, find a gun on the ground, cock it put it to my brain and scream "die Shady" and pop it. But on his new album shady was not mentioned as much as other albums.
Slim shady is a huge part of Eminem and is his alter ego also Slim started off Eminem’s career.

Retelling for Dead Man's Path
Retelling
The book Dead Man’s Path is about a man named Obi who was appointed headmaster of a school. Well this man thrived for perfection he wanted to make the school perfect but nothing goes the way it’s planed.
When Obi took over he was the headmaster of a rundown school that needed work. He first wanted to make the landscape of the school better he and his wife Nancy planted huge amounts of flowers in a garden to make the school look better. Also he was working against the clock because the school inspector was coming in a week’s time. Just when the school was getting to fit the big picture in Obi’s mind, he saw a path that lead throughout the school yard that the villagers used to get to their sacred burial ground. Obi wouldn’t stand for this he didn’t want the villagers going as they please through the school yard. So he put up big logs in front of the path followed by barbed wire enabling the villagers to get to the burial ground. But that didn’t go as planned because someone had died in the village but the path was blocked off by the logs and barbed wire so they had ripped through the shrubs surrounding the path they had trampled the flower beds and had had torn half of the school down in a riot for blocking the path. Well Obi didn’t know about this and had arrived the next day to the horrid sight of his master piece just destroyed and torn into a million pieces. Also the school inspector had came that day and gave the school a bad report, therefore tearing up the big picture even more and diminishing Obi’s spirit.

Main Characters
Main characters
Authors Note: In this book I am writing to compare and contrast two characters in two different books.
In the last three weeks I have read two interesting books “The Outsiders” and “My Brother Sam Is Dead”. I realized that the two main characters in the book are very much alike. Tim and Ponyboy are there names Tim is from “My Brother Sam Is Dead” and Ponyboy is from “The Outsiders”. The characters are very much alike in how they progress throughout the book.
Tim and Ponyboy change throughout the book in how they act and the role they play in the family. Like for the both of them for Tim his dad died and for Pony boy his best friends had died. So they had lost someone that was close to them, they also were treated very much alike other people said that they were too young to do certain things because they were too young. Also the scene changes throughout the book for both Tim and Ponyboy emotionally, because it gets sadder as the book goes on because people that they loved are dying.
They are different because the stories take place in different time periods, they lost a different member in their family Tim lost his dad and brother and Pony boy lost two of his friends but in the book his friends are his family. Also they lived differently Pony boy lived on the street and Tim lived in a nice house Tim had nice things and Pony boy didn’t have much at all besides a rundown house with little money and no parents they had died also when he was at a young age the only reason he has a house to live in is because his two brothers got jobs to let them have the house.
The biggest thing Tim and Pony boy have in common is how they experience death symbolism for Tim he experiences death symbolism by his dad being arrested and dying and seeing his brother get shot, and for Pony boy he experiences death symbolism by two of his friends dying and to him his friends and brothers are his family.
In this book the two characters Tim and Pony boy are very much alike but they are different at the same time just most of their traits are the same also the stories around them and how they experience death symbolism.

Tim wanting to be a man
Authors note: I wrote this essay on the main conflict in the book My Brother Sam Is Dead and explaining the conflict and how it was resolved during the book.
In the book “My Brother Sam Is Dead”, there are many conflicts like Sam and his dad but the main conflict is Sam’s brother Tim wanting to be a man. The main conflict in the story is Tim wanting to be a man but cant because he is too young.
In the book it is easy to tell that Sam is Tim’s role model he looks up to Sam in every way and wishes he could do what Sam can do but he is too young to do it. Like going on trips with his dad to trade cows and other things for money to run the tavern. But Tim is stuck doing chores around the house like milking the cows and collecting eggs from the chickens. Or like go to college and score what they call “telling points” that I think it is an old saying for bragging rights.
But the conflict was resolved in the book when father needed Tim to go on a trip with him to sell cattle. Well on the way back something tragic happened, father got captured and Tim had to pull the cart home it was a long way too. Since father had been killed and Sam was in war it was up to Tim and his mom to do all the chores and run the tavern. So Tim had to take up much more chores and duties, but after he took the long trip home he had changed he had no longer dreaded doing chores, he was okay with them and was ready to do the extra work, therefore the conflict had ended and Tim had become a man on the inside by what he changed even Sam had admitted that Tim had changed a lot.
In the book “My Brother Sam Is Dead” the main conflict is Tim wanting to be a man like his brother Sam and as the book progresses he does become a man on the inside taking up more tasks around the house so symbolically he did become a man
